Kiln-Dried Birch Logs
Birch is a great option to use as firewood as it gives off a medium heat and is easy to start as the bark peals like paper. Just like Oak and Ash, Birch doesn't create a lot of smoke or sparks making it a great option for the home.
We put our seasoned birch hardwood and firewood in stillages or in open piles in the sun for as long as we can, which we then finish off in the kiln. This provides a super dry product (i.e. around 15% MC or Moisture Content) with minimum usage of fuel for drying. The kiln is powered by logs too, usually tree surgery waste or wood that is of inferior quality to the sales product.
In general, the advantages to using kiln-dried birch logs is that there is less smoke, a higher heat output, less ash, less corrosion to metal flues or expensive appliances and less pollution due to better cracking of the wood gases.
